Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Sci-fi action blockbuster directed by Michael Bay, featuring large-scale destruction and alien robot warfare in Chicago

Transformers 3 came at an early pivotal moment in my career as I was transitioning from architectural firms into film art departments. I was brought onto the project by Production Designer Nigel Phelps, who hired me as his right hand, researcher and liaison with the digital assets and illustrators. Under Nigel’s guidance, I learned his process to design for camera and how to digitally organize a large-scale feature film, building a foundation for managing complex design pipelines.

In addition to this role, I was given the opportunity by the Set Designers to create Director’s Plans for various sets in Los Angeles and Chicago—my first hands-on drafting contribution on a blockbuster feature.

This was also my first experience working with director Michael Bay, which proved to be as high-energy and action-packed as his films. The project gave me early exposure to the coordination, speed, and scale of tentpole filmmaking, while reinforcing my technical and organizational skills within an art department.
